How to send your letter?
By registered mail with acknowledgement of receipt for a cancellation, a formal notice or a notice to leave: it proves the date of sending. In France, use a post office or the official laposte.fr website; in Belgium, a bpost office or post point.
Beware of websites that imitate La Poste or sell “cancellation letters”: some sign you up, in the small print, to a monthly subscription of up to €49.90. Here, the letter is free and you send it yourself.
Why is the letter in French?
Companies, landlords and insurers in France and French-speaking Belgium expect letters in French, and the legal wording (articles of law, standard formulas) is in French. The form is in English to help you fill it in: type your details, the letter writes itself in correct French.
Filling in the letter properly
Always include your references (customer, contract or order number), date and sign the letter, and keep a copy with the proof of sending. Many companies also accept cancellation online or by email: check their terms and conditions.
Nothing is sent over the internet
The letter is created in your browser. Your details never leave your device.
